I run cng on my 2013 e350. Costs 28 bucks to fill up. Costs me 63 dollars to drive it from san diego to fresno. Downside....not many stations offer cng so you have to plan ahead.

True only on the long leaves, and the same or more arch to the leaf. Short, straight leaves can be added as spacers on the bottom. Arch, relative overall length and thickness determines the rate of increased stiffness of the spring stack. Changing characteristics of each leaf changes the total. Lots of interesting adjustments can be made if you have access to a manufacturer or a lot of different spare springs stacks.

Build it for the application you have in mind. Think about 4 main categories: Tractor : RWD, great for wetlands. Your van cant fit big enough tires for that Trophy truck: 4WD, long susp, baja racing Your van might go fast but it is not for that Rock crawler buggy: basically a trophy truck with tractor diffs, tractor tires and 2 lockers. Your van is not for that Overlanders: take a big truck, put an RV on it, give it nice traction and then try to get as close to that as you can with your van. This is actually the right application for it.

Air bags are best used as supplemental or being oversized. All the issues you outline come from running high pressure in an overloaded situation. I have Airbags on my truck camper, I wanted the help to remove a bit of squat, additionally being able to dial in my needs from them for different loading situations. I only run about 30 PSI to achieve this and the truck ride beautifully and is quite stable. My bags are rated for 100psi and tbh if I needed anymore than 50PSI to gain the height I need then yeah new springs and or adding a block would come before adding a heap of pressure.
